Armchair BEA: Genre:Picture Books to YA

What are your favorites? Why do you love children's literature?

Oh, goodness...this is going to be a long post for me!

I have so many favorites! And I have so many on my bookshelves. Almost all the books I had as a kid in the 80's have now been passed on to my little girl. These stories hold so many memories for me and now my kid is making memories and adding more for me.

The reason I love children's literature is a little different then why I love YA. Children's literature (picture books and story books) always held excitement for me growing up. In preschool when I attended and then again when I taught, had those Scholastic book order forms and so did my elementary school. I could spend a whole afternoon looking through that slim catalog circling books I wanted. Then when I ordered, there was that excitement of getting something.

My top children's books are going to be hard to name, but I will try. :-)

Little Golden Books...there are just too many to name. And a lot of mine are marked with 0.89. Those were the days!
The Berenstain Bears by Stan and Jan Berenstain

I'm still in children's books, but now up to chapter books. The ones that stand out here to me are not as numerous. This was the time in my life reading wasn't fun. It was hard for me and I didn't look forward to it. I have dyslexia,  it wasn't diagnosed till much later in my life. Here are the books, that impacted me, they took awhile to read at the time, but they hold a special place in my heart.

The Little House Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
The Cronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
The American Girl Series: Molly by Valerie Tripp Kirsten by Janet Beeler Shaw

I will admit, that I didn't get in YA until a few years ago and I really liked it!

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan
Series
Percy Jackson & The Olympians Series by Rick Riordan
The Heroes of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

I love children's and YA literature. I'm usually immersed in it from my kiddo's doing or that of my own. It's a fun genre!

OMG, the Berenstain Bears! I looooved those books when I was little. I can't believe I forgot them, because those will also be a staple of my possible-future-children's library, haha!

Also - the Percy Jackson series is SO awesome. Did you the cover reveal for House of Hades? Gah!

The Monster at the End of this Book was my favorite. I didn't read any other Sesame Street books. There are a lot of good YA out there right now.
