Author: Lisa T. Bergren
Publisher: David C Cook
Pages: 388
ISBN: 978-1-4347-6429-4

Synopsis:
Would you sacrifice your future...for an uncertain past?

Gabriella and Evangelia Betarrini are just two normal American teenagers. Normal except for the fact that they time travel to fourteenth-century Italy, where they’ve lived in castles they’ve seen as crumbling ruins, become swept up in historic battles, and fallen in love with handsome knights willing to do anything to keep them alive.

They’ve returned to the present to save their father, just short of his tragic death, and now all four return to the place that holds the girls’ hearts, medieval Italy. But remaining there means facing great risk as the battle for territory wages on and the coming Black Plague looms. Can they convince their parents to stay and leave behind everything they’ve worked so hard to accomplish? And will the girls sacrifice their futures in an uncertain past? Or in facing death head-on, will they discover life as it was always meant to be lived?

Review:
There is no break between Cascade and Torrent, at least for Gabi and Lia. At the end of Cascade, they travel back to the present to get their dad. Then, as a whole family, they head back to medieval Italy. Gabi, Lia, and their mom went back to the near present for an hour and a half. It wasn't much time for the girls, but for the guys they left behind, Marcello and Luca, a year and a half has passed. In the time that the girls have been gone, much has changed. Castle Forelli has fallen and Marcello has been made a member of the 9 in Siena, which in turn makes him one of the most powerful men in the region.

Even though Gabi is happy to be back with Marcello, the fighting between the two cities continues, and it threatens to keep them apart. Now that Gabi has her dad back and he sees the danger that his daughter is happily to jump through time to be apart of he doesn't know if he can handle it.

Torrent is such a fast paced book. It is really hard to put down, but when you do, it is easy to pulled back into the story. There is so much  action and fighting, but with Marcello and Luca around there is also humor and a chance for romance.

There was only one small flaw for me in this book. You go through so much with Gabi with fighting, pursuits, and many other fast paced adventures, the book doesn't let up, and then the next thing you know, it ends. Boom! You're done. The story was great, but the ending was quick. I was so happy to see the two novellas Bourne & Tributary after Torrent. I wasn't ready to let these characters go just yet.

It's Too Read!
