This book was an interesting take on the Song of Solomon. I haven't really studied that book in-depth, it never really caught my attention. Having a story wrapped around the verses from the Song of Solomon made it a little more understandable.

When I think of King Solomon, he was a wise and just ruler and he had many wives. God granted Solomon wisdom and with that, Solomon was able to establish the nation of Israel that his father King David has set up and built the temple that David had wanted to, so that Israel would have permanent place to worship God.

This story makes Solomon real. He is flawed. That is the problem at times when I think of Biblical characters, they were perfect...but in reality, they are just as flawed as we are. So, this story portrays Solomon as a man. He wants to lead the nation. He wants to do what is right and what his father would have wanted him to do. As king, Solomon is desperate to have peace. He wants his kingdom to not be under war. He looks to surrounding nations and and forges alliances with the daughters of the rulers and his harem from there grows.He also wants what he wants right then.

Arielah is just a simple girl from one of the northern tribes of Israel, but she has known for a long time, as have her parents, she was destined for something other then being a shepherdess. When a treaty agreement is set up between Arielah's father and King Soloman, Arielah wants to be able to help bring peace to the fighting of the northern and southern tribes. She knows she must fight for peace among the other women of the King Solomon's harem. She knows that peace in the king's house will help bring peace to the king's land. 

Love's Sacred Song was a very good story. The characters are built up wonderfully. The strength and weakness of each character shines and makes them more real.
